'Another Stupid Wall' Print
Tuesday, 18 October 2011

On 4, 5 and 29 November 2011 the Taipa Area School (in Auckland's Far North) is producing Joey Moncarz's two-act comedy play, Another Stupid Wall, focusing on the frustrations of Palestinians. While the subject is serious, it is a comedy, and it aims to educate as well. The play has just been awarded ‘Best Play for the Young, 2011’ from the NZ Playwrights Association Playmarket. (http://www.playmarket.org.nz/news/plays-young).

Joey wrote the play not only to entertain, but also to support the Palestinian cause, and for the cause of peace. Another Stupid Wall  is a comedic exploration of the obstacles young people face as they inherit a problem-filled world from previous generations. A Palestinian brother and sister sneak into Israel to seek revenge on a Jewish-owned bakery which, according to a family rumour, was originally owned by their great-grandparents. Posing as Kiwi tourists, the two become involved in the life of the Jewish family now running the bakery, and life for everyone is forever changed as they get swept up by romance, make-overs, and fresh bread. Suitable for older children and adults. Performance venues, dates and times: Taipa School Hall: Friday, 4 November at 7.30 pm; Saturday, 5 November at 6 pm. Tickets $5 (Students $2). At the school office - at the Turner Centre, Kerikeri on Tuesday, 29 November at 7:30 pm. Tickets $15 (senior citizens $10), Students $5.
