Just before Martin Luther King Day, we present historian Lenni Brenner's new article looking at various Black civil rights leaders and their views regarding Zionism. Three Spanish citizens, Manuel Tapial, Laura Arau and David Segarra, were aboard the Mavi Marmara when Israeli forces attacked and commandeered the ship in international waters on 31 May 2010, killing nine people, wounding dozens more, and kidnapping all the crew and hundreds of passengers. The wall Israel is building on the village land would leave 96% of the village land Over the past 24 hours, the villagers built a mosque and set up five tent dwellings on their land behind the wall. The head of the Beit Iksa village council, Mr Kamal Hababa, stated that the idea of building this village extension is to protect their legally owned lands and to be the second such village built to protect from growing efforts at transforming Arab Jerusalem. Already the threatened village land behind the wall is 7411 dunums, which amounts to half the total threatened lands of the eight Palestinian villages north-west of Jerusalem and 96% of the village land of Beit Iksa. Colonial Jewish-only settlements built on Palestinian lands beyond the Green Line in this area include Ramot, Neve Shmuel, Har Shmuel and Givat Ze’ev. The Army is now in the village (Friday evening) For more information and to help, contact 0598882226 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Further news sources Ali Kazak's newsletter Today in Palestine contains many news summaries that include both armed and non-violent methods of resistance to the Occupation. We advocate the primacy of international law, the acceptance of which by the Israeli regime must be the basis for the ending of Israeli military occupation and all forms of ethnic discrimination. We work to raise awareness of the international community's responsibility for upholding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the urgent need for the state of Israel to be called to account for its gross abuses of Palestinian human rights. We call for the establishment of a unitary, secular and democratic state in Palestine/Israel, with full and equal citizenship rights for Palestinians, Israeli Jews and all other ethnic communities. The Palestine Human Rights Campaign Aotearoa/New Zealand (PHRC) works to raise public awareness of the Palestinian people's struggle to resist Israeli military occupation and Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. PHRC seeks to bring pressure on the New Zealand Government to join the majority of the international community in requiring Israel to:
