Recent news updates:

Israeli soldiers invade hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and abduct critically-wounded youngster. On 18 July 2017, the Israeli Army raided the Al-Makassed Hospital in Occupied Jerusalem, to abduct from the ICU, a critically-wounded Palestinian teenager, Ala Abu Tayeh (17). The youth had been shot by Israeli soldiers the night before in the Silwan district. The troops invading the hospital broke into the rooms of various patients' rooms, before surrounding the ICU where the seriously wounded teenager is receiving treatment for his serious injuries. The hospital administration strongly condemned the Israeli military intrusion into the hospital and its ICU, drawing attention to the history of Israeli Army raids on the hospital – see accounts and videos of such violations here. After the raid on the hospital, Israeli troops remained, harassing patients, physicians, nurses, workers and visitors, as well as inspecting everyone's ID cards. As part of the raid, Occupation soldiers took prisoner six young Palestinian men in several areas of the city. http://imemc.org/article/soldiers-invade-al-makassed-hospital-surround-icu-to-abduct-a-seriously-wounded-teen/

Report: Israeli military abuse singles out Palestinian children. Israel is the only country in the world that systematically prosecutes children in military courts – between 500 and 700 each year. Since 2012, Israel has held an average of 204 Palestinian children in custody each month, according to data provided by the Israel Prison Service. Ill-treatment in the Israeli military detention system remains “widespread, systematic and institutionalised throughout the process,” according to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report, Children in Israeli Military Detention Observations and Recommendation.

62% rise in Israel’s arrests of Palestinian children. 19 July 2017 | Some 331 Palestinian minors were abducted by the Israel Army between January and May this year, a 62% increase on figures from 2012 to 2015, NGO Defence for Children International- Palestine (DCI-P) revealed yesterday. According to a report released by the human rights group, Israeli forces regularly abuse Palestinian children, depriving them of food, subjecting them to beatings and preventing them from accessing legal counsel. Accountability Programme Director at DCI-P, Ayed Abu Eqtaish, stated: “For over a decade, ill-treatment of Palestinian children in the Israeli military detention system has been widespread and systematic.” DCIP records of cases between January and June also show that 81% of Palestinian children were strip-searched upon detention, two-thirds were denied legal counsel prior to interrogation and only three had a parent present during proceedings. The report details that one of the youngest children to be detained was 12-year-old Suheib from a refugee camp in the Occupied Ramallah area. He was allegedly throwing stones when he was knocked to the ground by Israeli officers and then restrained, beaten and blindfolded. He was subsequently held overnight at a police station, where he was interrogated and denied food for 24 hours. In another case, a 13-year-old boy known only as Anas M. was terrorised by an Israeli soldier who grabbed his neck as if to strangle him. The Zionist state prosecutes up to 700 children each year in military courts. Last month, DCI-P held a congressional meeting on the situation of Palestinian children over 50 years of illegal Occupation. https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20170719-62-rise-in-israels-arrests-of-palestinian-children/

Palestinian boy (13) loses eye after Israeli forces shoot him. 12 July 2017 | A 13-year-old Palestinian from the Occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Issawiya lost his eye on Sunday after Israeli forces fired one of the newer sponge-tipped type of steel bullet at the teenager. According to Israeli daily Haaretz, Israeli police raided Issawiya and opened fire with rubber-coated steel bullets at youngsters who threw stones at the invading forces. According to the boy’s family, 13-year-old Nour Hamdan was wounded while playing with other children on the second-floor balcony of their home. The family told Haaretz that when Hamdan’s mother called the children to come inside, Hamdan stood up and was hit in the eye. Hamdan, who the family said did not even take part in the stone-throwing, suffered a fractured eye socket and other facial injuries. According to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), in 2014 Israeli forces began using black sponge-tipped bullets as a crowd-control weapon on Palestinians. The new bullets are “twice as hard and heavy and their potential to cause injury is much greater” than the bullets used previously, according to ACRI. The group has documented 30 cases of Palestinians being wounded with sponge-tipped bullets shot by Israeli forces between July 2014 and February 2016 in Occupied East Jerusalem, with at least 12 East Jerusalem residents losing an eye, half of whom were children. In September 2014, Muhammad Sunqrat was killed after being shot with sponge-tipped bullets in the neighbourhood of Wadi Al-Joz.

Army attacks ambulances and medics In Jerusalem, 34 Palestinians wounded. Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) medics treated 34 Palestinians at the Khatib of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and took at least 14 others to hospitals after an Israeli Army attack in the Tribes Gate area and Jerusalem’s Old City. Medics said one of the wounded Palestinians had been shot in the chest with live ammunition.http://imemc.org/article/army-injures-34-palestinians-attack-ambulances-and-medics-in-jerusalem/

Al-Aqsa Mosque violation. The spiritual leader of the al-Aqsa Mosque warned of an “explosion” over the control of access to the city's holiest site, the Noble Sanctuary, hours after being shot by an Israeli Army rubber-coated steel bullet. Sabri said also that: “There is no Occupation power that has the right to control the Aqsa Mosque and what Israel is doing is [an] ugly violation against international laws. We [are] asking Erdan [Israel's public security minister] to step back from his statement that they own the Temple Mount and that it's under their authority. It's a very dangerous statement. Israel is using last Friday's attack to impose more control in al-Aqsa Mosque as part of its ongoing plan to change the status quo. We refuse it and the thousands of people who came to protest the last few days confused the Israeli authorities.”http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/al-aqsa-grand-mufti-warns-explosion-hours-after-being-shot-israeli-rubber-bullet-1333414322

Israel destroys Bedouin home in Naqab village. 20 July 2017 | The Israeli Government destroyed a home in the village of Wadi Na’am in the Naqab, southern Israel. The village is one of 35 Bedouin villages in the Naqab region not 'recognised'. by the Zionist state. The Arab Follow-up Committee, which advocates for Arab rights in Israel, said more than 200 Arab families in the Naqab have received demolition or evacuation orders. It set up several protest tents around the area, which will remain in place until 27 July, when a regional rally is planned to protest against anti-Palestinian measures taken by the Israeli Government in the Naqab, home to 240,000 Palestinians. According to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Israel refuses to 'recognise' more than half of the Naqab Bedouin villages. ACRI said the Government uses a variety of measures to pressure Bedouin to move into government-planned urban centres that disregard their lifestyle and needs. Whole communities have been issued demolition orders and others have no option but to continue living in 'unrecognised' villages that are denied basic services and infrastructure, such as electricity and running water. http://english.wafa.ps/page.aspx?id=M7wp1Da91410165132aM7wp1D
