Held just outside Aotea Square, the rally was videoed by a small gathering of supporters of the Zionist regime. We can only hope that at least some of them will be inspired, by the so many brilliantly-expressed truths they will have recorded, to think again. Debbie (PSC team) writes: “We had a very successful rally yesterday and it was so wonderful to see so many (and growing) Palestinian Kiwis attend. It was truly humbling to hear them speak and have them participate. I also want to thank Avigail Allen from Deyenu (Jews against Occupation) who made a very brave and moving speech against some opposition from Shalom Kiwi who delighted in attacking her personally. She is a very brave young lady indeed. There were so many wonderful speakers that were willing to come up spontaneously. If you were one of them and you are willing could you please send me your name. Thank you all for your continued support!” Video: Israel police spokesman unable to answer questions concerning illegitimacy of Israeli military rule over Jerusalem. In an interview on Al Jazeera, Israel Police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, not only denied the fact that Israel is an Occupying power but also asserted that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Rosenfeld refused to say whether he thought that a UNESCO ruling of 2 May 2017, was incorrect in ruling that [point 5] “Legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by Israel, the Occupying power, which have altered or purport to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, including in particular the basic law on Jerusalem are null and void and must be rescinded forthwith.” When the interviewer quoted from UN Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478, which refer to Israeli conduct in the Old City of Jerusalem: “All Legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by Israel, the Occupying power, which purport to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal validity.” The Israel Police spokesman was unable to deny that truth. Asked whether he would acknowledge that Israel's presence and its violations of UN Security Resolutions might lie at the heart of the problem and that Israel did not actually have the authority that it claimed for itself, he stuck to his propaganda line and refused to answer the question. The ideological commitment that governed the Israeli spokesman's responses included exclusive and monotonous repetition of the title 'Temple Mount', which he repeated on 15 occasions, even managing to squeeze it several times into one sentence. The seven-minute interview clearly exposes the irrationality of the Zionist enterprise and its contempt for international humanitarian law. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fb2vxo07Z4 BDS movement announces new English/Arabic website: https://bdsmovement.net/what-is-bds Our new What is BDS? page explains our movement, its key demands and central successes in a simple and accessible way. Our Get Involved section is a hub for action, connecting supporters of Palestinian rights to online campaigns, local groups and ideas for actions they can take in their own communities. Under Campaigns, you can explore what activists and unions are doing to support the struggle for Palestinian rights. You can also learn about important global campaigns that are led by the BDS movement. We have big plans to grow our movement across the world, launch our website in new languages, including Spanish, and develop even more effective campaigns to hold Israel accountable, along with companies and institutions complicit in its violations of Palestinian human rights. Please help us make these plans a reality by donating to the Palestinian BDS National CommitteeIsraeli Occupation dismantles Al Aqsa metal detectors and associated security structures. Israel backed down on Tuesday following mass protests by the Palestinian people. Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 war, and annexed the area in violation of international law – a move that has no international recognition. Jordan's king urges Israel to put guard on trial for killing Jordanians. Jordan's King Abdullah angrily demanded on Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu put on trial an embassy security guard who shot dead two Jordanians. Netanyahu had given the guard a hero's embrace after Israel exercised diplomatic immunity in order to rescue him. The king said the action was “provocative on all fronts” and demanded that “. . . the Israeli Prime Minister abides by his commitment and takes all measures to ensure the trial of the killer, and not handle this like a political show to achieve personal political gains.” Many Jordanians have accused the authorities of abdicating sovereignty by letting the guard leave, and lawmakers walked out of parliament in protest. Doha-based outlet says Israel leader's defamatory claims are latest episode of “ongoing vicious attack” against the network. Al Jazeera has denounced a threat by the Israeli Prime Minister to close the network's Jerusalem office, saying it will continue to cover events in the Palestinian territories professionally and objectively. The media network responded on Thursday, hours after the Israeli leader posted defamatory comments about the outlet's coverage to his Facebook page, saying Al Jazeera journalists “incite violence”. Al Jazeera “denounces such arbitrary accusations and hostile statements”, a press release from the network said. Netanyahu's comments mark “yet another episode of the ongoing vicious attack” against Al Jazeera, the statement read, referring to calls by a Saudi-led group boycotting Qatar to close the network. “Al Jazeera stresses that it would take all necessary legal measures in case they act on their threat,” the statement continued. “The network moreover reiterates that it will continue covering the news and events of the Occupied Palestinian territories, and elsewhere, both professionally and objectively.” Netanyahu has long complained of Al Jazeera's coverage. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/07/al-jazeera-slams-netanya-bid-shut-jerusalem-office-170727111707184.html Settler terrorist on rooftop shoots and kills Palestinian youngster in street. An armed Israeli settler shot dead a Palestinian youngster, Mohammad Mahmoud Sharaf (18), in the Ras al-Amoud neighbourhood of Occupied East Jerusalem, while Israeli soldiers were shooting and wounding many other Palestinians. Sharaf had everything to live for, having just successfully finished high school, he was preparing to attend a local university for higher education. The Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) reported that its medics were unable to reach many wounded Palestinians due to the extensive Israeli military and police deployment and shut-down of the entire area. http://imemc.org/article/israeli-settler-kills-a-palestinian-in-jerusalem/ Palestinian shot dead in al-Eizariya as clashes erupt in Jerusalem. 22 July 2017 | Israeli forces shot at least two Palestinians, critically wounding one of them, in the town of al-Eizariya in the central Occupied West Bank district of Jerusalem, on Saturday evening, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent told Ma'an. The seriously-wounded Palestinian, 23-year-old Yousif Kashur, succumbed to his wounds a short time later. His death raised the number of Palestinians killed by Israelis since the beginning of the year to 50, 15 of whom were killed in the month of July alone. In Abu Dis, another youngster, 17-year-old Muhammad Lafi, was also shot dead by Israeli forces on 21 July when Israeli troops stormed the town, using tear gas canisters, stun grenades and rubber-coated steel bullets against a gathering of young Palestinian men. https://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=778276 The al-Aqsa Mosque represents Palestinian cultural and national identity. Israel’s actions may well lead to catastrophic consequences that go far beyond Jerusalem and Palestine/Israel, and will stir up the whole Middle East, leading to an unprecedented flare-up of regional tensions. Israeli actions contravene the delicate set of arrangements governing access, security and administration of the site since Israel’s Occupation of Jerusalem began 50 years ago. Israel does not have the right to change the status quo. It is not the first time Israel has desecrated the holy site and the volatility of the situation has been very clearly demonstrated by recent events. More than 100 were injured as Israeli forces fired tear gas and stun grenades on worshippers re-entering after two weeks of protests. As the Call to Prayer sounded from the al-Aqsa Mosque again, thousands of men, women and children made their way to the compound on Thursday, after Israel removed surveillance equipment and other obstacles from the gates leading to the holy site. On Thursday night, dozens of Palestinians who have taken shelter inside the al-Qibli Mosque were surrounded by Israeli forces who cut off electricity in an attempt to force them outside of the compound. Earlier in the day, the scenes of euphoria and celebrations inside the compound were cut short by Israeli forces who stormed in at the heels of the crowds that had entered the al-Aqsa Mosque complex. Raed Saleh, a resident of Occupied East Jerusalem, said that re-entering the compound on their own conditions was a victory for Palestinians. Amid growing tensions at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Al Jazeera explains why the holy site is a flashpoint. http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2017/07/al-aqsa-170719122538219.html Amnesty International slams Israeli police for ‘terrifying’ hospital raids. 26 July 2017 | Amnesty International has condemned Israeli forces for conducting a number of violent raids into an Occupied East Jerusalem hospital, which has been struggling to treat hundreds of Palestinians who have been injured by Israeli forces in recent days in a brutal crackdown on demonstrations surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. In the span of ten days, Israelis killed four Palestinian demonstrators and injured more than 1,000 others, in protests against new Israeli security measures put in place at the holy site following a deadly shooting there on 14 July. Israeli forces stormed al-Makassed Hospital at least twice over the past week in an attempt to detain the same protesters they had critically injured. https://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=778346 Ceasefire violation: Israeli Army storms Khan Yunis farmland. 25 July 2017 | Israeli tanks shelled Palestinian farm and pastoral land east of al-Qarara, in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. The shelling came from the Kosovim military base, south-east of Khan Yunis. Israeli forces also made an incursion, shooting their way into the area. According to a recent report in Al Jazeera, “Gaza is in the third month of an externally enforced reduction of its already meagre electrical power supply. Gaza's population of two million would ordinarily require about 450 megawatts (MW) of electricity daily for around-the-clock power. However, over much of the past decade, as part of the tight Israeli blockade of Gaza, its power supplies have fluctuated around 200MW, resulting in persistent blackouts. But over the past several months, according to the Israeli human rights organisation Gisha, Gaza’s supply each day has varied from 140MW to an all-time low of 70MW, lengthening the blackouts and the human suffering.” More: http://imemc.org/article/israeli-forces-invade-khan-younis-fire-shells/Israeli colonists attack family in their home in the Old City of Hebron. On 25 July, Israeli colonists invaded the home of Ali Ibrahim Abu Rajab in Hebron and assaulted the family before raising Israeli flags and propaganda on the roof of the commandeered property. Israeli soldiers stood outside without intervening. The Zionist fanatics threatened and abused the family, terrorising the children and vandalising the house. Israeli soldiers now surround the family home, preventing the family from returning, while the Israeli Army has also seized control of three shops owned by a lawyer, Salah Abu Rajab, who is the father of Ali Ibrahim Abu Rajab. http://imemc.org/article/israeli-colonists-attack-family-in-their-home-in-hebrons-old-city/ Israeli soldiers abduct Palestinian author aged 83. 23 July 2017 | Israeli soldiers abducted an elderly Palestinian author, intellectual and political leader of the Palestinian People’s Party (PPS) from the West Bank village of Halhul. Mohammad Sa’id Medhya was taken prisoner after Zionist fanatics assaulted him and members of the Land Defence Committee. The soldiers took Medhya for interrogation in the illegal Keryat Arba’ colony, built on Palestinian land, east of Hebron City. Medhya was elected as a member of the Administrative Committee of the General Union of Palestinian Writers, from 1996-2004. He also wrote many books and novels, in addition to research documents, about the Palestinian culture and struggle, Zionism, sociobiology, democracy and various other subjects. http://imemc.org/article/israeli-soldiers-abduct-an-elderly-palestinian-author-in-hebron/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Palestine Yearbook 2015 The genocide the world ignores by Diana Lodge Everyone should have a copy of this invaluable resource!
