Settler violence against Palestinian olive harvesters
Help us plant an olive tree, because we're here to stay Recent news updates: More than 300 US rabbis and cantors petition Israel to stop selling weapons to Myanmar. UN condemns Myanmar's ethnic cleansing against Rohingya muslims. “As American citizens and as Jews, we refuse to accept any involvement by the US or Israel in training or arming a military that is carrying out a brutal ethnic cleaning against a minority population”, the petition, released on Thursday, states. The clergymen and women demand that Israel stop selling arms to Myanmar's military and that the US stop military exercises. They say the words “never again”, which emerged out of the ashes of the Nazi Holocaust, apply to violence against all minorities. A separate group of Israeli rabbis has made a similar appeal. Israel's Foreign Minister has “vehemently denied” any involvement in the violence in Myanmar, also known as Burma. But an Israeli official said the government was “reassessing” its weapons sales to Myanmar. A Rohingya militant attack on Myanmar police in August sparked a series of reprisals by government security forces, creating an exodus of more than a half-million Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh and elsewhere. Most of the refugees are children. The Rohingya Muslims say they are a long-persecuted minority in Buddhist-majority Myanmar and are often denied even the most basic human rights. https://world.einnews.com/article/412184660/HAZVoTnw2pOGvBUa?lcf=ZX9dkeSQfK-5FADPuwjBkQ%3D%3D Plant an olive tree, because we're here to stay. The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights has partnered its Trees for Life movement with the Palestinian Fair Trade Association. Nusayba Hammad, the Trees for Life movement's Communications Director, sends the following message: “Olive trees mean a lot to us as Palestinians. Their roots symbolise our attachment to the land: deep, stubborn, and intricate. Their fruit gives us breakfast food, olive oil to cook with (and rub on every ache or pain), soap, and endless motifs for our pottery, embroidery, and art. In Palestine, there are groves with olive trees hundreds of years old, their trunks thick and gnarled and passed down through the generations. There are stolen groves: some ripped in half by Israel’s Apartheid Wall, some taken in their entirety. There are destroyed groves, with only stumps remaining on land that has been carefully cultivated for generations. And there are groves, marred with scorch marks and the odd stump, freshly re-planted with young saplings. The sight of these groves always evokes a fierce sense of pride in me. Pride in our resilience as Palestinians, our stubborn refusal to be uprooted from the land, and our determination to rebuild. But it is also heart-wrenching to see the fruits of generations of labour destroyed, and the livelihoods of farmers stolen. Trees for Life gives priority to farmers who are young, women, have small groves, or who have lost trees to the occupation. When you plant an olive tree, you are not only supporting a Palestinian fair trade farmer financially, but you are showing them that you are aware of their struggle and are in solidarity. It makes sense why olive trees are under attack. When an Israeli settler uproots an olive tree, they are making a feeble – yet vicious – attempt to uproot Palestinians from their land. By planting olive trees, Palestinian farmers are making a statement: they are there to stay. But they are fighting an uphill battle against an apartheid state that is actively displacing, incarcerating, and stealing the lives and livelihoods of Palestinians.” Plant an olive tree for a Palestinian farming family with a donation of just $25. The Villages Group reports settler persecution and violence against Palestinian community. An email forwarded by the North Devon PSC in South Hebron Hills reveals accounts of the daily harassing, by armed settlers, of At-Tuwaneh villagers. Havat Ma'on is an Israeli Occupation settlement 'outpost' established by armed and extremely dangerous Zionist fanatics. Children are regularly molested on their way to school. On Friday morning, 27 October 2017, a gang from the outpost, armed with slingshots, stoned and bashed At-Tuwaneh village olive harvesters, and set savage dogs onto them.
