L & M. IOP Report {9} | October 2014 Recent news updates: Jewish Chronicle prints correction to PSC story after complaint to Press Complaints Commission. On 17 July 2014, The Jewish Chronicle published an online story on its homepage headlined Pro-Palestinian group says its supporters made antisemitic comments. This was a completely false headline, and attributed comments to Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s Director, Sarah Colborne, which were never made. The London-based pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat reported on Thursday that the Palestinian Authority has agreed to delay by two months its plan to seek a Security Council resolution calling for an Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines within three years. http://www.albawaba.com/news/palestinians-accept-us-request-hold-security-council-statehood-bid-615201 See in this context: Statehood for Palestine? By Micaela Sahhar | 23 October 2014. (Every now and then, one comes across a piece of writing that stands out from the many trying to untangle a subject matter that six decades on and counting is no closer to a resolution. It is not just the same old phrases that echo so emptily, the ideas too are worn out, even obsolete. How refreshing it is to read a different perspective put so simply as in the article below. That alone should urge us to calibrate our own thinking and reflect deeply on Israel-Palestinian relations. Simply, justice must be more than words on paper to satisfy abstract legal principles, it must be truly restorative to the victims and involved communities because it is the only road to peace left. For the Palestinians, as much as any other people, peace without justice is no peace at all. – Sonja Karkar – Australians for Palestine) Spook - independent culture magazine UK Tories tap anti-Israel activist for by-election. Views of Kelly Tolhurst, who supports BDS, go against official Conservative Party position. Haaretz 24 October 2014 | Britain's Conservative Party has selected an anti-Israel activist who supports the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement as its candidate in an upcoming by-election in the constituency of Rochester and Strood, Kent. The candidate, Kelly Tolhurst, on Thursday won an open primary in which she garnered 50.44% of the vote. The by-election, which is scheduled for November 20, was called after the sitting lawmaker, MP Mark Reckless, defected from the Tories to the UK Independence Party. Tolhurst is a vocal anti-Israel activist, according to the Jewish Chronicle, which reported that she has regularly used her Twitter account to call for the boycott of Israeli companies, including SodaStream and Ahava. Tolhurst also reportedly published posts that were critical of the Israeli army's actions in the Gaza Strip, and backed a petition calling on Britain's government to send a hospital aid ship to Gaza. The Chronicle also reported that, in 2012, Tolhurst expressed disappointment that Britain had abstained during a United Nations vote on recognising a Palestinian state. Her views on Israel contradict those of the British government. “I’m honoured that thousands of local people have voted to select me as the Conservative candidate for the upcoming by-election," Tolhurst said after the primary result was announced. "I will be a strong local voice, standing up for Rochester and Strood – my home.” Interpretation of international law. “Maintaining a workable international legal order requires the most powerful countries to set the correct precedent; if the US is indeed justified in using force in Syria, then it ought to offer a legally tenable defence for its participation in the conflict.” Invoking Article 51: http://icj.einnews.com/article/230787791/kpYCYe4RBM9CgBRi?n=2&code=6CEOIvl6-NKOCprX Israeli Army sniper shoots dead Palestinian youngster (14).
